-6 characteristics of living things-have cells, contain similiar chemicals, use energy, reproduce, grow and develop, respond to surroundings

-Four Needs of Living things-energy, water, living space, and stable internal conditions
-Unicellular-one cell
-Multicellular-more than one cell
-Autotroph-an organism that creates its own energy/food
-Hetertroph-an organism that cannot create its own food
-Homeostasis-how stable internal conditions remain the same
-Aristotle’s classification-divided animals into 3 groups; those that fly, those that swim, and those that walk, crawl or run
-Linnaeu’s classification system-binomial nomenclature
-Binomial nomenclature- Know the seven levels of classification in order-Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species
-Cell-the basic unit of structure and function in an organism
-Stimulus-a change in an organisms surroundings that causes the organism to react
-Response-an action or a change in behavior
-Controlled experiment-an experiment in which all factors are identical exept one
-Manipulated variable-the one factor that a scientist changes during an experiment
-Spontanious generation-the mistaken idea that living things arise from nonliving sources
